This Renaissance doublet is an iconic garment from the late Middle Ages and Renaissance, originally developed from the Frankish "wams," which began to spread as men's clothing around the 14th century. Over time, it became part of Spanish fashion and spread throughout Europe from the 15th century onwards. The doublet, also known as "doublet" in English or "jubón" in Spanish, was made from fine materials with refined details, often featuring a fitted cut and elegant decorations.

Main Features: This doublet, made of 100% cotton velvet, is lined and features elements that highlight its elegance, such as decorative applications, metal buttons, and accentuated shoulder pads. It is designed as a formal garment for events, reflecting the style of the upper classes of the time. Its length is crafted to sit just above the waist, with an added "schoß" (flap) divided by slits, covering the connection point with the trousers. Hidden loops on the front allow the trousers to be fastened directly to the doublet with laces, an authentic detail inspired by historical garments.

Historical Context: The doublet stands out from its predecessors as an outer garment: while it was originally worn under armor for protection and comfort, it later became a status symbol, widely used in European courts. With its fitted cut, small raised collar, and waist seam, it was often padded in the abdominal and chest area to emphasize the male figure according to the aesthetic standards of the time. It was common for the sleeves to be attached with "nestelbänder" (decorative laces), making them easy to remove and replace depending on the occasion.

Care and Maintenance Guide: Cotton velvet should not be machine-washed, as it tends to wrinkle irreparably. It is also not advisable to iron it, as heat can flatten the pile, compromising the fabric’s appearance and depth. For small stains, use a soft brush following the direction of the pile. For more stubborn dirt, it is preferable to take the garment to a specialized dry cleaner.

Important Note: This offer is for the doublet only. Other items shown in the images are available separately in our store.
